Edgewater to Mariners Report
The 2006 Edgewater-To-Mariners Inn race was modified this year and
was a raving success!!
The race began as usual with the A boat crews socializing on the Edgewater
pier. The traditional shot gun start sent crews running for their boats
and the sails were up in a flash. This years three-lap course left
the Edgewater went out to the Steven Shur Memorial Mark where beer was
required to be consumed on Baywatch each time you rounded. Next, boats
sailed up in to University Bay
and
then past the Memorial Union terrace with the mooring field kept to port.
True excitement for the people sitting on the terrace. Different boats on
different laps got
to pick the reach mark meaning that if you were in first, you did not want
too big of lead and force the racing to stay tight. As usual creative
cheating was applauded and encouraged. Check out the H88 under tow during
the RACE! And Paul McMillan hiking gave them extra style points. Emily
Green skippered the H13 to a victory but she was almost disqualified due
to the fact that she sailed a clean race however she did get PRO Frautschi
the correct kind of beer on the Terrace and the clinched the team Blue
Chip's win. Thank to Linda Poulsen for the photos
