MYC Specialty Trophies
Each season, the Mendota Yacht Club presents several specialty trophies. The Board of Directors selects the recipients of these trophies at a regularly scheduled Board meeting following the annual meeting. These specialty trophies; the Tanglefoot Award, the Hi-C’s Member of the Year, the Betty Bamforth Yachtswoman of the Year and the Stu Seffern Memorial Trophy recognize those who have done exceptional service for our club, had an exceptional case of bad luck or achieved a personal best during the season.
The Board encourages--in fact, welcomes--nominations from the membership. Nominations may be made using the email link below or any scrap of paper available. Nominations must be received by the club commodore prior to or at the Annual Business Meeting via the US Postal Service, e-mail or hand delivery. A member may self-nominate. Nominations may be made anonymously. The nomination should include a brief explanatory paragraph. The Board will review nominations and select the recipient. Decisions of the Board are final.
1. The Betty Bamforth Yachtswoman of the Year: Dr. Betty Bamforth was an E-boat skipper and served as the first female commodore of the Mendota Yacht Club. This award recognizes a woman who has had an outstanding year as skipper.

2. The Stu Seffern Crew of the Year: Stu was an enthusiastic and reliable crewmember aboard many E-boats in the MYC fleet. This award recognizes a crewmember who brings that kind of enthusiasm and reliability to a program on any boat in the club.

3. The Tanglefoot Award: Presented for the “Most Spectacular Case of Bad Luck” during the season, this award recognizes those times when things just don’t go well in a big way. Traditionally, this trophy rotates between fleets; however, the rotation may be altered if a fleet has not had a suitable candidate. In the very rare instance when absolutely nothing has gone wrong, the trophy will not be awarded. A well-embellished version of the incident prompting the nomination should be provided on the nomination and may be given during the trophy presentation.

4. Hi-C’s Member of the Year: This trophy is presented to a member who has given exceptional service to our club. Recipients of the trophy have included regatta chairs or members who have gone “above and beyond” in service to the club. There are two trophies, though it is not mandatory that both be awarded.
