ILYA MC Invite Recap

Click here to view of some Grant's photos.

The 2006 ILYA MC class Invitational regatta is in the books and once again the Mendota Yacht Club showed that we really know how to put on a great regatta! I received so many positive comments from the sailors that attended that it would take a book to list them all! Needless to say, I think all enjoyed the entire event despite the heat and the fact that we had to stare at flat water most of the day Saturday

.In the end, 6 races were completed with the newest Melges hotshot, I mean employee, Jamie Kimball winning the event. He was one of those who told me what a great event we put on and said that he really enjoyed sailing on Mendota! Former MYC C boater Jay Rendall took 3rd overall. Even though he has not been a MYC member for over 20 years, we will claim him as our own! I would like to give a huge thanks to Tom Stitgen for all the work he did as regatta chair. He put together a fantastic team of MYC volunteers that made the event as good as any I have ever attended. It is extremely difficult to organize an event such as this and my hat is off to Tom for doing such a great job!! I also want to thank all of the folks who volunteered their time to help us make this happen.

There are really too many to mention by name and I would hate to leave someone off the list. You know who you are and I appreciate all the help!! Regardless, I estimate that almost 50% of our membership was involved in this regatta. That alone makes me proud to be a part of this group of wonderful people! Thank you all for your time, your boats, your labor, your donations and your smiles! I also need to thank all the folks and Bishop's Bay for allowing us to invade their beautiful facility.

I heard a number of comments about what a great Yacht Club we had...I just grinned and smiled. The staff at Bishop's Bay did a great job and I hope they will allow us to hold another regatta sometime in the future.

Finally, I hope we can tap that volunteer keg one more time this year as the club is hosting the I-20 Nationals in September. Regatta Chair Grant Frautschi is already hard at work putting together a regatta that could see over 40 boats! I'm sure he will be putting out a call for volunteers soon and I am confident the our membership will once again step up to help and show that we can host 2 major events in one summer!

Thanks again to all !!
